TABLECLOTH SIZE GUIDE
Find the perfect fit for every table and every occasion
Choosing the right tablecloth is simple: it all comes down to your table’s dimensions
and the drop (how far the fabric hangs over the edges). Here’s how to get the size just right.
Step 1: Measure Your Table
Use a flexible measuring tape to determine your table’s:
-
Length and width for rectangular or oval tables
-
Diameter for round tables
→ Tips: Always measure the full surface of your table, not just the usable center.
Step 2: Choose Your Preferred Drop
The drop refers to how much fabric falls over the edge of your table — it sets the style and feel of your setting.
Casual look: 20–25 cm (8–10") drop
Perfect for relaxed, everyday meals
Formal look: 30–40 cm (12–16") drop
Elegant and balanced, ideal for entertaining
Dramatic look: 45 cm+ (18"+) drop
Luxurious and refined — perfect for special occasions or layered tablescapes
Step 3: Use These Simple Formulas
Rectangular or Oval Tables
Tablecloth size = Table size + (2 × desired drop)
Example: Table: 100 × 200 cm (39 × 79 in), Desired drop: 30 cm (12 in) → Tablecloth: 160 × 260 cm (63 × 102 in)
Round Tables
Tablecloth diameter = Table diameter + (2 × desired drop)
Example: Table: 12 cm (47 in) diameter, Drop: 25 cm (10 in) → Tablecloth: 170 cm (67 in) diameter
Styling & Practical Tips
- Allow space for chairs — a longer drop may look elegant but could interfere with seating.
- For round tables, layering a square tablecloth diagonally adds a creative, artistic touch.
- Choose the drop according to occasion and mood: casual, formal, or dramatic.
