CURTAIN STYLE & SIZE GUIDE

Find the perfect style and fit for every window
CHOOSING YOUR HEADER STYLE
The curtain header defines how your curtains hang, move, and frame your space.
At Maison L’Artisane, we offer three timeless header options — each crafted for both beauty and function.

GROMMET HEADER

Clean lines and effortless movement — grommet curtains offer a modern, polished finish that’s as practical as it is elegant.

Best for: Living rooms, bedrooms, and contemporary spaces.

Crafted with rust-resistant plastic grommets in white, silver, or black (depending on the design), each curtain pairs beautifully with your existing hardware for a refined, harmonious look from top to bottom.

What you’ll need: A standard curtain rod — no rings necessary.
Grommets measure 1.5" to 1.9" in inner diameter and fit rods up to 1.25".

HOOK TOP HEADER

Refined and versatile, the hook top header brings a clean, structured look with a graceful drape.

Best for: Bedrooms, dining rooms, or more formal spaces.

This header offers a tailored finish that suits both classic and contemporary interiors. Each panel includes curtain hooks for easy setup and timeless elegance.

What you’ll need: Curtain rings with small eyelets (as shown) or a curtain track system.

ROD POCKET HEADER

Understated and timeless, the rod pocket header allows the curtain rod to slip through a sewn-in pocket, creating a soft, gathered silhouette.

Best for: Bedrooms, reading corners, or decorative layers.

This style lends a relaxed, cozy charm — ideal for curtains that stay mostly in place. For frequent opening and closing, we recommend a more functional header.

What you’ll need: A standard curtain rod. The pocket opening measures approximately 4", making it especially suited for sheer panels or stationary layers.

MEASURING YOUR CURTAINS
Perfect curtain sizing ensures your space feels complete, balanced, and beautifully styled. Here’s how to get the fit just right.

Step 1: Choosing the Right Width

To achieve a soft, elegant drape, your curtain width should generally be 1.5 to 2 times the width of your window or curtain rod.

Example: For a 100 cm (39 in) wide window, aim for a total curtain width of 150–200 cm (59–79 in).
If using a pair of curtains, divide the total width equally (e.g., two panels of 75–100 cm / 29–39 in each).

Header-specific tips

Hook-style curtains: These usually have approximately 2× fullness built in. Simply match your rod or track width for a clean, tailored look.

Grommet or rod pocket curtains: These require extra fabric to achieve volume.

We recommend 1.5–2× the rod width, depending on how gathered you want the finish:

  • 1.5× for a more relaxed, airy look

  • 2× for a rich, full effect

Step 2: Choosing the Right Length

Curtain length sets the tone of your room — from casual to romantic elegance.

Sill Length
Ends just below the windowsill. Light and casual, ideal for kitchens or small windows.

Floor Length
Ends 1–2 cm (0.4–0.8 in) above the floor. Clean, modern, and timeless — perfect for living rooms or bedrooms.

Puddled Length
Extends 5–15 cm (2–6 in) beyond the floor. Soft, romantic, and elegant — perfect for bedrooms or formal spaces.

→ Tips: Always use a measuring tape and consider the height of your curtain hardware (rod or track) before choosing your curtain length.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR WINDOW

Every beautiful curtain begins with a thoughtful measurement.

Step 1: Measure the Width

If a curtain rod or track is already installed, measure its full length — this is your width base. If measuring the window only, add 15–30 cm (6–12 in) on each side so curtains can be fully pulled aside, letting in maximum light.

→ Tip: A wider curtain rod can make your window appear larger and your space more open.

Step 2: Measure the Length (Drop)

Measure from the top of where your curtain will hang to the point where you want it to stop.

Where to start measuring:

  • Rod pocket or grommet curtains: Measure from the top of the rod

  • Hook-style curtains: Measure from the eyelet on the curtain hook

Decide how far down you want your curtains to fall:

  • To the windowsill

  • Just above the floor (1–2 cm / 0.4–0.8 in)

  • With a puddle effect (5–15 cm / 2–6 in longer than floor length)

→ Tip: Use a metal measuring tape for more precision, especially for longer drops.
