BLACKOUT CURTAIN GUIDE

Style, softness — and the perfect level of light for every room
At Maison L’Artisane, we believe that functional pieces should also be beautiful.
Whether you’re blocking out morning light, creating a cozy movie night atmosphere, or adding privacy to a bedroom, this guide will help you choose the perfect blackout solution.

What Are Blackout Curtains?

Blackout curtains are designed to reduce or block light from entering a room. They’re typically lined with dense or layered fabrics that also offer thermal insulation and privacy.

We currently offer three levels of light control:

 Sheer

Allow soft, natural light to fill the room while offering light privacy.

Best for: Living rooms, kitchens, or layered window treatments

Effect: Airy, delicate glow; adds texture without heavy coverage

 Light Filtering

Softens daylight while keeping the space bright and breathable.

Best for: Open-plan spaces, living rooms, or areas where gentle light is preferred

Effect: Partial privacy with a warm, inviting glow

Room Darkening

Dramatically dims the room without full blackout.

Best for: Bedrooms, nurseries, reading corners

Effect: Cozy feel, reduced brightness, strong privacy.

Blackout

Blocks 90–100% of light depending on fabric weight and fit.

Best for: Media rooms, shift workers, light-sensitive sleepers

Effect: Near-total darkness, added insulation, maximum privacy

Helpful Things to Know

Color & Performance
Darker fabrics naturally block more light, but light-colored blackout curtains with proper lining are equally effective.

Coverage Is Key
Hang your curtains wide and high to reduce light gaps and enhance the blackout effect.

Example: For a 120 cm (47 in) wide window, aim for curtains 180–240 cm (71–95 in) total width depending on desired fullness.

Premium Lining
Our blackout curtains are lined with soft, quality materials — no plastic-like stiffness or heavy synthetic feel.

Care & Installation Tips

- Blackout and room-darkening panels are slightly heavier; ensure your rod and brackets are securely anchored.

- Hang the panels as soon as you receive them, gravity will naturally smooth out wrinkles.

- Steam gently if you like, but never on velvet.

- Dry clean or spot treat only.
